The Theatre of Craft // An exhibition of bespoke tailoring at The Service
To mark the reopening of Savile Row and lifting of retail restrictions, The Service is delighted to be taking part in The Pollen Estate’s Theatre of Craft: a two week-long event in which visitors will have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves into the skills, craft and world of bespoke tailoring.
Commencing on April 12th, visitors to the street will be taken on a journey through the intricacies and details of what goes into crafting a bespoke garment.
The experience will kick-off in The Service with an exhibition curated by world-renowned Huddersfield cloth merchant Dugdale Bros & Co. – now in its 125th year. Featuring artefacts from the Dugdale archives alongside a photographic exhibition by Arran Cross, the showcase tells the story of the cloth making process from raw material to finished garment.
From here visitors will be invited to promenade Savile Row to witness this journey in action. On the East side, visitors will be able to observe the craftsmen and women, who devote themselves to producing the pieces, at work in their studios.
Meanwhile, on the West side, the focus will be on the processes of repair, with installations including pattern cutting, leather work and hand embroidery from new arrivals Savile Row Valet, and Hawthorne & Heaney and Dobrik & Lawton.
The Theatre of Craft will be taking place from 12th April 2021, along Savile Row.
